Only about 39% of the 2.1 million workers who applied for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits in 2005 were approved. And those who are approved get an average benefit of just $1,063 monthly—hardly enough to replace the average worker’s income.*

Only 18 percent of consumers recall being approached about buying disability insurance–less than half as many as those being approached for life insurance. Only one percent of consumers --one quarter of all shoppers -- initiated shopping for disability coverage themselves.**

More than 70 percent of American households rely on two incomes to make ends meet, yet less than 26 percent of Americans have disability insurance.**
